Abstract

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae STE5 is an essential protein for the activation of MAP kinase homologue FUS3 in the pheromone mediated signaling pathway. STE5 independently interact with STE11, STE7, and FUS3 kinases, and form high molecular weight complex (300-500 kDa) with those kinases for efficient signal transmission and exit. Disappearance of the high molecular weight complex in a STE5 deletion strain suggests essential role of STE5 in the complex formation. An active form of FUS3 is not in the high molecular weight complex (300 ~ 500 kDa) observed in a STE5^(+) strain, but a small complex (180-250 kDa) which may include STE11 and STE7 kinases.
